Responsible Mica Initiative’s Global Workplace ESG & Due Diligence Standard Achieves International Equivalency

The Responsible Mica Initiative (RMI) is proud to announce that our « Global Workplace ESG & Due Diligence Standard for Mica Processors » has been officially recognized as the 351st standard included in the International Trade Center’s (ITC) equivalency platform. This accomplishment highlights the strength and breadth of our standard, developed in collaboration with the Responsible Minerals Initiative from the Responsible Business Alliance.

Why Conduct a Standard Equivalency Exercise?

The decision to evaluate our standard against others, such as SA 8000, GRI, and SMETA, was born out of a thoughtful reflection among our members. Our goal was to assess the comprehensiveness of our standard and its alignment with other cross-industry benchmarks. After two years of applying our standard, the standard equivalency exercise performed by the ITC affirms our belief that the RMI’s standard has the potential to become the norm in the mica processing sector.

A Valuable Tool for Our Members and Non-Members

This standard equivalency exercise offers our members a comparative tool to better understand how the RMI standard measures up against others in the industry. For instance, if a supplier or mica processor presents an SA 8000 audit report, our members can now confidently compare those findings to the requirements of the RMI standard. Although our members predominantly apply the RMI standard, this exercise serves as a valuable tool for non-members seeking to align with industry best practices.

Strengthening the Legitimacy of Our Standard

The inclusion of our standard in the ITC equivalency platform reinforces the legitimacy and credibility of a standard that has already gained significant traction in the industry. This recognition affirms our commitment to fostering transparency and sustainability across the mica supply chain while promoting responsible practices that align with global standards.
