Strategic Accomplishments:
The year 2023 witnessed significant progress across RMI’s strategic pillars. RMI’s traceability platform was strengthened, providing members with a secure tool for regulatory compliance and enabling closer monitoring of supply chains. RMI pursued its efforts to empower mica-dependent communities in India, while preparing the ground for expanding its Community Empowerment Programs in Madagascar, therefore laying the groundwork for sustainable development and economic resilience. Additionally, efforts to extend responsible workplace standards to the entire supply chain were intensified, with initiatives focused on mines, processors, and downstream brands. In Madagascar, RMI’s initiatives have reached 2,195 participants from mining communities, with 10 new mica exporters joining the RMI in 2023. RMI’s team traveled over 90,000 kilometers to monitor the work of mining communities, engaging with local stakeholders to combat child labor and improve workplace safety. In India, RMI’s six-year collaboration with local communities has yielded remarkable results, including, for 2023, the establishment of health camps and childcare centers, among many other programs described in the Annual Report, benefiting thousands of individuals in mica-dependent regions.

The mica supply chain is complex, with deep-rooted issues such as child labor and unsafe working conditions requiring multi-stakeholder collaboration and sustained effort to address.
