In 2020, the Responsible Mica Initiative joined with the Responsible Minerals Initiative to co-develop the Global Workplace and Due Diligence Standard for Mica Processors. The standard expanded upon the initial version developed in 2018 by the Responsible Mica Initiative and based on field trials among three processors in India, and included the addition of due diligence provisions.
The enhanced standard was launched in March 2021 providing mica processors with a unified framework to promote responsible, safe, and sustainable mica processing worldwide. The standard is revised regularly.
- Requirements: Defines clear requirements for mica processors to improve workplace conditions, ensure environmental and social compliance, and strengthen supply chain transparency through due diligence aligned with OECD guidelines.
- Scope: Covers key areas such as environmental management, occupational health and safety, human rights, governance, and upstream due diligence. The standard supports continuous improvement and responsible sourcing practices across the mica value chain.
By adopting this standard, mica processors demonstrate leadership in building a responsible mica supply chain, contributing to fair labor conditions and safe workplaces, and demonstrating respect for human and workers rights.
