PROGRAMS / COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT

The Community Empowerment program is directed by RMI staff and implemented with the support of more than 90 development professionals employed by local program partner civil society organizations (CSOs). Partners provide expertise in disciplines that promote social and economic development in underserved rural communities. RMI and program partners amplify their community outreach by identifying and coaching members of each village who are trusted and can serve as ambassadors to explain program elements to the broader population.

These partners are organized in two distinct consortium:

  • Bihar and Jharkhand – Sustainable Action for Mica (BJSAM)
  • Collective for Empowerment and Sustainable Action for Mica (CESAM)

BJSAM partners

Abhivyakti Foundation (AVF)

Abhivyakti Foundation is a non-governmental organisation incorporated in 2022 and which has been active in Jharkhand since then. AVF has developed an expertise in the fields of  livelihood, health, education, local self-governance & child protection.

Bhartiya Jan Utthan Parishad (BJUP)

Bhartiya Jan Utthan Parishad (BJUP) is a non-governmental organisation established in 1983 with the goal of empowering disadvantaged communities through awareness, sensitization and advocacy. The organisation has diverse development experiences in the areas of Child Protection, Quality Education, livelihood and Skill Development, Health & WASH and Environment. BJUP also aim to help underprivileged people in remote locations who are unable to benefit from government programmes through advocacy and good governance. BJUP also made evidence-based and innovative attempts to improve the quality of life in the Mica region of Bihar and Jharkhand through community empowerment approach. BJUP widen services to protect their dignity, capability, and rights through participatory techniques and further stretching the thinking to find new, long-term solutions to the concerns such as food security, behavior change and climate change.

With a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including a research team with sectorial expertise, clear perception, rational understanding, and new methods, BJUP seek to accelerate social transformation for diverse development. BJUP have also developed implementation models, standard operating procedure and training modules to join our hands with other organizations for the development of the society.

Samarpan

Samarpan is a philanthropic organization established with the aim to bring the children involved in the illegal mica mines of Koderma into the mainstream of education. Samarpan is a Hindi term that signifies devotion, dedication, or commitment. Our services are for individuals who are backward and lack essential necessities in their lives, such as sustainable livelihood education, health, social security schemes, and water. We expand our service to help needy people build their love, respect, and rights in order to connect them with community development and mainstreaming through participatory ways.

Samarpan has worked in the mica mines of Koderma, Jharkhand, for the past 17 years to improve child rights, protection issues, income generation activities, alternative livelihood, public health and hygiene, sustainable agriculture, promotion for marginalized communities through empowerment, community-based interventions, and influences good governance to improve access and quality of services. This is accomplished by cooperating with like-minded organizations to increase our research capacities, strengthen our evidence base, disseminate findings, interact with government and networks, and promote the scaling up of beneficial programmes.

Samajik Parivartan Sansthan (SPS)

Samajik Parivartan Sansthan is a non-governmental organisation that works in Jharkhand’s remote districts. The organisation has 22 years of expertise in the fields of quality elementary education, good governance, child protection, and livelihood development. We have certain best practices for achieving our goals from top to bottom and vice versa. Moreover, the organization aims to empower disadvantaged population through participatory approach and working together with like-minded organizations to enhance our research capabilities, bolster our evidence base, communicate discoveries, engage with networks and the government, and encourage the expansion of beneficial programmes.

The community mobilisation team, together with the research team, is very energetic and skilled in their work. The team has its own approach, process, and actions for mobilising communities for issues that are important to the organisation and the community through new ideas and methodology, particularly in the education sector. Further, master trainers are capable of creating training materials, modules, and disseminating them in a variety of unique and remarkable ways. As a quality education leader, the organisation has developed its resources and people as master trainers in Education, Urban Governance, Micro-Finance, and Micro-Planning over time.

Rashtriya Jharkhand Seva Sansthan is a non-governmental organisation incorporated in 1999 and which has been active in Jharkhand since then. RJSS has developed an expertise in the fields of education, local governance, livelihood, health awareness & empowerment.

Srijan Mahila Vikas Manch is a non-governmental organisation incorporated in 1996 and which has been active in Jharkhand since then. RJSS has developed an expertise in the fields of gender equality, quality education, child protection, support to person with disability, livelihood.
